We just wanted to thank you for the wonderful job you all did for Nikki (and us). Every one of you were so understanding and made a really tough day better for us. Not for one minute did we feel alone! We felt like we were your only clients that day.”

Pet Diagnostic Testing Leads to Faster Treatment

A handsome long-haired cat in Rocky Point NY

Because your pet can’t tell us what’s wrong, prompt and accurate testing is necessary to form a diagnosis. Many animals may not show signs that they are sick until they are very sick. With some serious disorders, your pet may not even feel sick!

Early detection of illness allows us to treat your pet more quickly and effectively for a better outcome. The sooner we can identify a problem, the faster we can provide treatment.

Rocky Point Animal Hospital has a full in-house diagnostic lab, as well as access to advanced specialists to assist our veterinarians in making a diagnosis so that we can begin appropriate treatment as quickly as possible. Our approach to diagnostics allows us to make early and accurate detection of illness possible. Some of the routine lab screens we use include:

  • Complete blood count
  • Liver function screening
  • Kidney function screening
  • Endocrine screening
  • Intestinal parasite screening
  • Heartworm test
  • Screening for tick-borne diseases

For a Closer View Inside Your Pet

Blood tests and hands-on examinations aren’t always conclusive. There are times when looking inside your pet is important for us to form a diagnosis and recommend the right course of treatment. Digital X-rays can give us a visual representation of what is going on inside your pet.

Modern digital radiography allows us to obtain the highest quality diagnostic images. At Rocky Point Animal Hospital, we use the most advanced digital X-ray system, allowing us to get the images we need quickly and efficiently, thus minimizing the amount of restraint required and reducing your pet’s exposure to X-rays.

Ultrasound allows us to obtain even greater detail of internal organs and heart function. It also helps us to identify masses that are sometimes not visible on an X-ray. Rocky Point Animal Hospital works with highly skilled ultrasound specialists that are available as needed.

As soon your pet’s test results are known, we can begin the appropriate treatment. In addition to illness, quick results are valuable for pre-anesthetic testing that is done if your pet is about to undergo surgery, as well as for evaluation of your pet if there is an emergency. Pre-anesthetic testing provides you with peace of mind and gives us important physiological information about your pet before we give anesthesia.
